LHarman
This is really sad but I have original books for almost all the programmes mentioned here! Floor to ceiling shelf unit in my bedroom filled from top to bottom My fave's were Pipkins, Bagpuss, Rent-a-ghost ( My first ever crush was on Timothy Claypole!) Trumpton, Camberwick Green, Clangers and Mr Ben. On a recent rip to the Film Museum in Bradford, I watched an episode of Pipkins where Hartley Hare has to go to the dentist as he has been eating too many sweets. Hartley Hare was like a Puppet version of Larry Grayson ......... so camp!! There was a scene in it where he hid some chocolate from Tortoise and told him to "Come and get it big boy!!" I almost choked laughing! Can anyone remember a series called " A swish of the curtain"? It had a pre Blue Peter Sarah Green in it and it was about a group of kids who took over and did up an old theatre? I loved that one. still say this now.... "my names pig and I like food" - pig from pipkins.
shoeshine
Thanks for that new link, CHAIRBOY. By the way, does anyone remember the early 1950s when people with TV's could buy a transparent plastic TV screen cover which comprised four or five static horizontal bands of different colours? This was placed over the black and white screen, and stayed there during viewing. It needed a lot of imagination to consider it "Colour" TV. The start of colour TV transmission in the late 1960's in this area was a bit more sophisticated than those old "add-ons". My aunt had one of those too! CHAIRBOY
The name of Peter Butterworth has just come to mind but as he died in 1979, you'd have to be late 50's to remember him on TV, although he went on to feature in many "Carry On" films. He married impersonator, Janet Brown. On TV, he was in a number of programmes but I seem to recall "Whirligig" as one of them and I'm sure he put in appearances on "Crackerjack"? http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.carryonline.com/carryonline/images/castandcrew/portrait-butterworth.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.carryonline.com/carryonline/peterbutterworth.html&h=332&w=350&sz=59&hl=en&start=1&tbnid=_-n3egrQBZoE2M:&tbnh=114&tbnw=120&prev=/images%3Fq%3DPETER%2BBUTTERWORTH%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN

SheffSadie
I loved Mr Ben, so much so that when my kids were little I bought them the video. To say they weren't interested is an understatement <sigh>
