Steptoad
I believe King Ted's school has one that was dug up by their archaeology society/club a few years ago.

iansheff
While I'm on here, can anyone let me know some locations of old Air raid shelters in Sheffield? Please don't reply with any of this 'three layers of tunnels' nonsense as this as most on here is also a myth. In front of the old stone part of Hallam University on Ecclesall Road there was a large air raid shelter with several rooms inside it, not sure if it is still there. I cannot remember how you got into it, not sure if it was just steps down or there was a man hole cover you had to remove, it must be over 20 years since I was in it. Quite a decent little place. Both manholes have been welded shut now though so someone's obviously been caught going in.
AdamM
Visited the shelter on Midhurst road today. Unfortunately a load of earth has been dumped in front of what we reckon would've been the entrance. Can anyone confirm this from the (poor) pictures below? Two concrete posts off to the left of the picture: http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/adamemorgan/Sheff%20forum/30122010066.jpg Again, the posts at the end of the dry stone wall: http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/adamemorgan/Sheff%20forum/30122010065.jpg The posts appear to be central to the mound on the side facing the chimneys. Also, on the OS maps the area is shown as being a reservoir (see below, pretty much central to the map.) Any ideas? http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=53.42240598639955~-1.5041911292062426&lvl=15&dir=0&sty=s&eo=
tonyp5467
the entrance looks like it was further to the left as you look at them mound from where you took the pics the entrance was close to the top of the mound and it went down some stairs maybe 10 or so then through a steel door maybe it has been filled in as it was used for all sorts of things when i was a teenager drinking den and a place to go with the girls:love:
AdamM
Sounds like my kind of place. Contemplating digging it out if it's worth the effort. That and if we know where to dig!
