Let's hope this comes off then from the Daily Mail :gag: Online website

Reading will today make a shock £3m bid for Sheffield Wednesday centre back Madjid Bougherra.

Manager Steve Coppell was set to move in last night with an approach that the Championship club will find almost impossible to resist.

It matches the valuation Wednesday slapped on the head of the 24-year-old Algerian defender after rejecting a £1.3m offer from Charlton this week.

Bougherra, 6ft 2in and 14st, has become a highly prized attraction in a relatively short time. He cost Wednesday just £200,000 from French club Gueugnon eight months ago after an impressive loan spell with Crewe last season.

That's always a tough way to lose. Hard luck. :(

Owls Swoop For Clarke

Leon ClarkeSheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws has made Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Leon Clarke his first permanent addition to the Owls squad.

The 6ft 2in target man, who scored both Wolves goals in their 2-2 October draw against the Owls, has moved to Hillsborough for an undisclosed fee on a contract until the summer of 2009.

The 21-year-old has made 83 appearances for his hometown club, scoring 15 goals, after progressing through the WWFC youth system.

Owls boss Brian Laws said: "I believe Leon will be a great acquisition to the team. He gives me a different option up front to those we currently have, which will enable me to change things when required."

The striker is not eligible to play in the club's FA Cup replay at Manchester City but could make his Wednesday debut at home to Sunderland this Saturday. He will wear squad number 18.
