CHAIRBOY
I learned of the death this week of Dereck Gregory, 81, in Northallerton. In the 60's Dereck Gregory was the backbone of the Sheffield Waterworks Cricket team, when it was a wonderful sports' field at Crookes. I thought Gregory was "Mister Waterworks" as he seemed to do everything; rolling the pitch, marking the wicket, organising the games, keeping wicket and captaining the team. This was before the blanket coverage of sport hit our TV screens and many an afternoon could be spent watching Sheffield Waterworks. Dereck had two sons, John and Stephen who were good cricketers and both went on to play for Sheffield United C.C. Another man of my sentiments now in that "Great Pavilion" above.
