fatbloke
Hi My wife and I are visiting and staying over on a Saturday night in Sheffield at the end of April. Can anyone suggest a nice restaurant for late on the Saturday afternoon? Not too bothered about cuisine but must be within walking distance of the City Hall. As we are going to an early evening concert, any suggestions where we can go for a beer after? Thanks
Bad_Hair_Day
might be worth trying the ivory http://www.the-ivory.co.uk/index.html - it's not far from the City Hall. I've not tried it myself, but keep meaning to. I think there are some reviews of it on here, if you do a search. Once you come out of the City Hall you're just about in the centre of all the bars - just follow the crowds! Have a good night.
fatbloke
Just had a look at the Ivory menu - looks great! It'll be nice to visit Sheffield for something else other than business. Thanks.
twoshots
Heard some not-so-good things about The Ivory. I suggest you read the thread on here about it. I can't post the link because I haven't posted enough times on here for it to let me *sigh* The threads titled " Whats the Ivory like for food?" Personally, I like Cubana and Pizza Volante (have the mussels for starters, awesome!). Both in easy walking distance. Cubana is a tapas bar but may get a bit crowded with the Saturday night rush (being a bar as well). Pizza Volante is good although the service can be slowish, but I like it that way (depends if your in a rush to leave). Cubana, 34 Trippet Lane, Sheffield, S1 4EL. (Have a look at cubanatapasbar.co.uk/find.htm it's close) Pizza Volante, 225 Glossop Road, S10 2GW
Bad_Hair_Day
Yeah, see your point about the latest Ivory thread. How about BBs on Division Street - a lovely little Italian place, or Huw Wei on Glossop Street (chinese). Not sure what Crystal is like during the early session - the restaurant is good at night. Or a little further away is the Wig & Pen. Try here for a few ideas http://sheffield-central.com/restaurants.htm or http://www.thebigmenu.co.uk/index.php
twoshots
There's also San Remo on Division St. Their food is good but the decor is a bit basic. A few people on here recommend boho on Campo Lane. Never been personally. Although this talk of good food is making me hungry. *Looks at bank balance* *sigh*
Hook
Pizza Volante is good, and Cubana and boho are both good - although I'm not sure if either of them are open on Saturday Afternoons. The Wig&Pen is good, and they usually offer a tapas selection if you don't want a full meal! http://www.wigandpensheffield.com/site.htm I'm not a massive fan of BB's on Division Street, I've been a few times but I obviously choose the wrong nights because it's always been empty and lacking in atmosphere. It's bring your own booze too, and I never feel right taking my own bottles of beer with me a for a meal. There's also Ruskins near the Crucible who do some good food, and there's the restaurant in the St. Paul hotel but I've not eaten there. Another place that I'm not 100% sure opens on a Saturday daytime is the Runaway Girl, if they're serving food. They've ditched their website in favour of a myspace account for some reason: http://www.myspace.com/therunawaygirlclub
jaylaur
Mama's and Leone's just up from the Crucible is very good. Cuisine from all around the world and a really nice cosy atmosphere.
