...People will not use pubs as much if they cannot smoke there, as a lot of people enjoy socialising with a pint and a cigarette.

Back in November, JD Wetherspoon were sounding optimistic about a ban possibly helping to boost sales.

A smoking ban in enclosed spaces is long overdue.

I have to say yay! What gets me though is that if the Welsh and the Scottish have had the ban in place for ages, how come it takes till July for England to get it?! :loopy:

If it was something George Bush wanted them to do in Iraq, Blair'd jump throug hoops for it and would've done it last week probably

i agree with the ban... dont see why everyone should be put at risk of getting cancer/emphasymia etc just cos a few people think they have more rights than the rest of us, if people wanna smoke then fine just do it in there own homes! or better still save urselves some cash and lead a healthy life!!!

Yay for the simple fact that I'd like to go out and be able to wear my clothes again instead of having to bung them in the wash because they are clean, but stink of smoke.

Think of the environmental benefits of all the less washing we'd need to do!

Actually, I was reading on the news that they reckon it's less environmentally friendly - the problem they have, in Dublin anyway, is that smokers still want to smoke so they go outside. Pubs then try to attract the smokers with things like gas heaters... which are super-unfriendly to the environment. Plus all the smokers tend to hang around the door so you get a haze of smoke when you enter or leave the pub anyway.

I'm not saying I'm for or against here, I'm just saying the way it turned out in Ireland :)

I'm in favour as regards pubs etc, but the regulation making it a criminal offence to smoke in my truck is a preposterous and unacceptable piece of class war from middle class scum.(Who don't drive lorries)

I visit Scotland quite a lot and you get used to the regs. very fast.

I now find it peculiar to be allowed to smoke in an English pub or restuarant and actually prefer to go outside.:)
