You could argue it but it's not really as dangerous as consuming cancer ridden chemicals courtesy of someone else :)

Unless they are planning to ban fat people from Mcd's, KFC and BK then he'd put more tax on booze :o

in all fairness im not too trusting of the studies into the damage of passive smoking, considering in the past 100 years the development and usage of such a massive amount of chemicals/substances, ill agree that there will be some effect but the miniscule amounts of smoke produced after been prefiltered by my own lungs cannot have nowhere near as much effect of many other things combusted in day to day life

you could argue fat people consuming more starves others
and you would be incorrect in doing so.

and also without having paid an added premium to the nhs they are using valuable resources which could be used to save someones life who had say been in an RTA.
They do it's called VAT, applied to takeaway and reataurant food, besides there's an entire thread devoted to this.

Using the argument that justifyies one type of 'bad' behaviour by saying other people are also 'bad', so why should I be 'good', is a sign one hasn't a valid point in first place.

i did not start smoking until i was 19.

Even if i gave up smoking, i would not be able to buy my own house.

Even if i had never smoked, i would not be able to buy my own house.

What if i am a smoker because my mum is a smoker.

And who are you to say that smoking does not release stress but increases it. who has proved that, i have never seen anything to state that as fact. Neither is there any proof that Roy Castle died because of other peoples smoke. I know of 2 8 year old girls who have cancer, they have never been near smoke.

I guess you people all believe that men have walked on the moon as well then. I cant believe that on a tv quiz, they asked how many men had walked on the moon and never gave none as an answer.

I have increased the amount i smoke when they announced the ban. I was close to cutting down to 5 a day, i have been smoking close to 15 a day since.

I know smoking is unhealthy, but then so are half of the restaurants that are going to be all non smoking.

I would rather smoke a few fags per day than eat unhealthy food that is more likely to kill you, and so is liver disease from drinking extra because of the extended licences.

Ive heard in ireland, they have lock ins and get all the ashtrays out.

What does that say about what the public really want.

All you saddo's live in this dreamworld where you think that the smoking ban will make your lives so much better. When all your mates are at raves that allow it, towns in england will be a lot quieter.

More proof that smoking destoys brain cells. What about the burning end of cigarette that hasn't been filtered at all, by lungs[yeah right] or a filter.

You're a junkie who forces others to join in. Even if it wasn't toxic, it smells effing awful. You're a selfish individual, who doesn't give a toss for other people's well being or comfort.

Miniscule refers to your brain size not the amount of smoke that permeates rooms with smokers in them.

With people like this in favour of smoking, I certainly wouldn't admit to being a smoker if I smoked.

Why has the ban resulted in you smoking more?

Ive heard in ireland, they have lock ins and get all the ashtrays out

The pubs don't close till late in Ireland so they don't get time to have a lock in :D

towns in england will be a lot quieter.

And a lot less smokier

half of your posts are insults, ive no doubt you'll soon be insulting people for not employing correct grammar etc.

i'd be comfortable going to a smoking pub (which could have a warning saying - smoking may kill etc) while you can comfortably go to a non smoking pub, now both would be welcome in either pub but in one smoking would take place and in the other it wouldnt, and i'd happily refrain in the non smoking pub, and you'd hopefully refrain from moaning in the smoking pub.

in the all out ban scenario, i and others will flout it, or if im liable for a fine which i believe is true, i'll start smoking cannabis in pubs more often.

the government have known that cigarettes are harmful since the 60's and 70's. They banned tobacco advertising on car racing, snooker etc. Why have the government continued to sell cigarettes and put the price up for so many years and now you lot are going on about us poisoning the rest of the non smoking population. Its only coz we have joined the eu and they have had to ban smoking in pubs. If they had continued to let us smoke these HARMFUL SUBSTANCES, would you lot have had a say? The government have not done anything about this when they have known for a lot of years about it. If they had banned it 10 years ago, i would probably not have been a smoker. Saying that, drugs are on the up, a random sample of £20 notes from around the country were sampled and 100 percent of them had traces of cocaine. Are all you non smokers prepared to admit if you take drugs or not. Didn't think so! I dont partake in coke, its too expensive for what it is. Look for the pretty skinny girls who say im just going to powder my nose. If they have white powder round it, is that not more disgusting than smoking?

but as non smokers why should we have to put up with your filthy habit.

we surrendered our WMC membership in the late '80's 'cos of the smoke atmosphere. we even gave up a lucrative business working in pubs, clubs & hotels due to smoking.

why should i have to give loose money or give up a decent business jut to stop myself bein killed silently by you lot.

Its the difference between what someones actions does to themselves and how its affects other people. Apart from being a bit lairy and arsey - someone who is coked up isnt going to affect you in the same way as someone beside you smoking - whose smoke will make you smelly and affect the air that you breath.
