The all things tattoo megathread

Recommended Posts

The thing with the pain is that it DOES hurt being tattooed but it is not at all unbearable. normally i find that the first 15 minutes are painful but then your natural pain relief kicks in and you just kind of relax into it. If a certain bit is really painful just practice steady breathing for a few minutes and keep your body relaxed and soft. I find that asking for a second to just relax my muscles if i have tensed up and then breathing in to a count of 7 and out to a count of 9 for a couple of mins helps! And if it is hard for you the pain you could always just take a cocodamol and an ibuprofen. But not aspirin as you will bleed more.

The link I gave you for woody doesn't show all his work, he did some of mine and it is very colourful and the shading and colour he has used are briliiant - I have recieved a LOT of compliments for the piece he did. most of the pics he has up at the moment are grey shading, but he works very well with colour.

If you are not wanting a black outline just discuss this with the artist.

anyway, I will shut up now!

No need to shut up nerd, any advice is always welcome.:) It's very much a part of the learning curve for me.

I managed to visit a few tattooists this afternoon around the Intake, Handsworth and Woodhouse areas. Most I wasn't impressed with (too many chavs hanging around.....tattoo watching:confused::huh:.....don't know if this is a new chav pastime). That was Intake/Manor so I suppose it's to be expected.

Things got better in Handsworth where one place in particular was very customer focussed but the clear winner (so far.....I've yet to do more research) was She Inks in Woodhouse. Very friendly, chilled out atmosphere with the proprietor really knowing her stuff especially when it comes to custom/realism work. She seems to specialise in this and informed me that she'd be at the tattoo expo in Donny in August and at one in Sheffield in October, so I'll look forward to both of them.

No probs.

The Intake dragon seemed like chav central and it looked like something major was about to kick off as an incident had apparently happened between two motorists outside. There seemed to be several people standing about inside who didn't seem to be customers and personally I just didn't like the vibe although the fact that it was apparently busy could be looked at as being positive. Also the place did look very clean and tidy and maybe if I'd gone in at a different time I might have a different impression.

Feel the Steel was emptier but there was somebody being tattooed in the back. The young lad (not the tattooer) I talked to was initially helpful but seemed to be devoid of ideas and interest as I tried to explain what I required.

The work on display in both places looked OK and similar to most of the other tattoo parlours I've visited but I didn't see anything outstanding or uniquely different that would let me know that they are custom artists.

I went to Dragon Tattoos last Saturday, went through a few things and ideas, and was to get some images together so we can get something designed. In the mean time, I was asking around friends, in gym etc about Dragon Tattoos, and I got bad reviews, some say people have to go to feel the steel or else where to get things put right that Dragon did wrong!

So after many poeple say go to Feel the Steel, and one of my friends has a full sleeve done by Simon there, it looks really neat and good, so that was good enough for me, and I went down Saturday to seem them.

I'm like you, this is not a small peice and I want the best job done, and I don't mind paying the money.

I have a great image in my head of what this could look like, I just need someone to actually make it a reality.
