FAGANS - Possibly the worst pub in sheffield

Think most people that I know at work would disagree with the orignal post. A wine bar it ain't. But the food is nice and the Tetleys is fantastic, which is saying something since it seems so easy to ruin Tetleys! I can only think of a handful of places that have nice Tetleys.

I'd love to know what the OP drunk in there. Was it a lager by any chance? And further, what was he or she expecting when he or she entered the place having seen it from the outside. The facade of the pub says 'traditional boozer' to me, not Mr Q's which I presume is the OP's real choice of drinking establishment.

Maybe he or she isn't mature enough to enjoy the true qualities of Fagan's? The fact there is no pool table and jukebox is of course part of its charm. You can talk and be heard without raising your voice to sore-throat-in-the-morning levels.

The Guinness in Fagan's is, IMO the finest pint in Sheffield. Maybe the OP has tasted the bland version of the drink in some Scream pub and his/her tastebuds can't appreciate the real deal? Or as I presume, he/she prefers fizzy lager. They also used to serve incredible Burton Ale and I've never had a poor pint in there.

Maybe I'm glad the OP didn't like Fagan's. Leave it to us who appreciate a real pub serving real ale and food. No rip-off prices in here either.

I think the OP got lost and was heading for West Street. That's where you want to be mate, plenty of bland run-of-the-mill cattle shed boozers up there who'll screw you for your custom and no doubt charge a quid for a game of pool.

(Fagan's customer since 1987.)

I stopped going there after they were rude to Sheffield Library staff who were trying to organise the Irish Festival back in the 90's. The landlord accused them of trying to steal his trade and was very rude to them.

The plastic Paddys who drink there say that it is not an irish pub, however that is absolute proof that the landlord believes it is an irish bar.

As for what you refer to as music, if I wanted to go and see loads of lefties singing their political songs, I would go to a rally. That is not music, that is the kind of attitude that causes uproar and divide in this country.

Quite frankly I am a good judge of pub character and yes this is probably the worst pub in sheffield.

Well, as other posters have pointed out, it's horse for courses with pubs isn't it?

As for your comically absurd notion that the beautiful music that issues forth from the back room having the 'kind of attitude that causes divide and uproar in this country' - I'm afraid that speaks more eloquently about the kind of person you are than I ever could.

D_Money's claims are both absurd and wrong.

I've played guitar in the back room a few times yet strangely, I've never led a riot of socialists and lefties by way of singing songs by the likes of Billy Bragg. (Well, a Tory supporter wouldn't, wouldn't he?)

Unless of course you call songs by Buddy Holly political?

For the record then, what IS a good pub? Tell us, D_Money, I'm ready for a laugh.
