Amsterdamned
Sunday 4th March - Americana Night @ Under The Boardwalk As it's the first Sunday of the month we're back at UTB for our regular night there. Doors open at 8pm and entry is free, though as ever you're welcome to drop a pound or two into the donation box to show your appreciation for the acts. On the bill we have: The Enquiry Fresh from the studio having just laid down their new 4 track demo The Enquiry follow last highly month's successful West Street Live debut with a return to Under The Boardwalk. Formed in the early part of 2006 they spent much of last year holed up in a rehearsal room at Yellow Arch studios. The Enquiry live experience began in October 2006 and they saw out the year with several successful shows. Compared favorably to R.E.M., and drawing influence from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles and The Smiths, their brand of country tinged indie pop is set to win them many more friends throughout the coming 12 months. http://www.myspace.com/enquiry The Steve Gascoigne Band Steve Gascoigne has been around and about the music scene for twenty odd years, playing both his own compositions and in covers bands. He's worked with many great musicians along the way including some of his all time heroes Joe Strummer, Glenn Tilbrook, Jools Holland and The Hothouse Flowers. Steve's currently recording new material with his band with the album set to appear soon. His diverse influences include The Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Hank Williams, The Clash and Steve Earle. http://www.myspace.com/stevegascoigne Whiskey Dogs Wakefield's Whiskey Dogs make a return visit to Sheffield after going down a strom at West Street Live last year. The three piece's country and blues tinged brand of rock has been winning them fans all over the country including London where they're due to play again at the end of the month. They formed barely 12 months ago, but to hear them you'd think they'd been playing together for years. http://www.myspace.com/whiskeydogs Jonathan Vidler Jonathan Vidler is the founding member and front man of Sheffield band Reepicheep. Having found himself writing new material, intended for the band, that he didn't think really fitted with the direction the band was going, he decided to embark on a solo career too. From there it became a solo album and even led to him setting up his own label (Giant Hit) to release it on. Jonathan counts his influences among the likes of Jeff Buckley, Sufjan Stevens and Bright Eyes. http://www.myspace.com/jonathanvidler
