Is it by any chance "Aphrodites Child" - a group that included Vangelis and Demis Roussos.

I wondered this as well; I reckon this album (called 666) is actually one of the outstanding achievements of late 60s/early 70s prog rock - there's something for everyone in there from blistering guitar solos to weird chanting, from pop to what sounds like actress Irene Papas having some sort of mental breakdown on one track. They were, of course, (allegedly) drugged out of their brains when they made it, and certainly none of their other output is anything like as weird, but I think it's an absolute masterpiece.

This week I am mostly listening to Gorillaz first album, the live double album by Indian musicians Shakti and the English guitarist John McLaughlin, 'Remember Shakti' and 'The Lost Trident Sessions' by John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra. The latter album contains a track called 'Dream' featuring peerless, sublime guitar work by McLaughlin which makes me feel glad to be alive. It is hard to believe that these sessions recorded in 1974 were only released in 1999. Now, McLaughlin's compositions are being taken seriously in the contemporary classical field. That is long overdue. He is ten times better a composer than the likes of Michael Nyman and Gavin Bryars, and equal in terms of musicianship to any contemporary classical, jazz or rock guitarist.

That's what I wanted to listen to, I just didn't know it.

now playing! Trilogy (The Sunlit Path) to follow...

(interesting to see Jan Hammer on keyboards with the Mahavishnu Orchestra)

I think I might have to put some king crimson and mars volta on too, now I'm in the mood

Phanfm had some problems as the hour turned, not sure what it was, but the connection to the server kept dropping. Apologies to those who were listening - so I've put the whole "lost trident sessions" on just for good measure. Click the link in my sig to tune in if you've not heard it before. As timo intimates, it's pure, unadulterated pleasure to listen to.

Well, I'll put it on after Tush Tush Tush (A token of my extreme).....
