PROPHECY & GUESTS

EARTH ROOM - GROUNDED

SLYDE (FINGERLICKIN’)

GEOFF TICEHURST / WILL ATKINSON

Metropolis showcase another killer drum ’n’ bass line up to celebrate 15 years of the influential Ram Records’ reign at the top. Andy C and Red One lead the charge while Fingerlickin’s break beaters, Slyde, top the Grounded bill in Earth…

Illegal raves, pirate radio and dabbling in drums all provided a musical grounding for the teenage Andy C. Foregoing a career as a printer for a lifelong devotion to the bassline, he founded the Ram Records imprint as a teenager within weeks of leaving school.

After throwing himself into DJing through out the early 90s jungle explosion, Andy C poured his energies into honing his production and programming skills. On hooking up with family friend Ant Miles, the duo began recording as Origin Unknown, leading to a piece of drum and bass history in the form of the 1993 classic, ‘Valley of the Shadows’…

Since then Andy C has become one of the heroes of the d’n’b scene. As Ram Trilogy (with Ant Miles and Shimon) and Origin Unknown, he’s produced numerous floor fillers including the top 40 denting 2002 ‘Bodyrock’ with Shimon, d’n’b’s brief nuzzle with mainstream chart success.

He’s been awarded the Drum and Bass Arena award for best DJ for 6 consecutive years while consistently featuring in the upper echelons of numerous magazine polls. His mixes for Fabric and his own Nightlife series have helped spread the d’n’b word. If you’re into your drums and bass you can’t afford to miss this master live and in the mix…

Andy’s label partner and able deck hand Red One will be backing the big man up while new boy on the drum and bass block, Eddy Woo, will be dropping all sorts of tough rolling tackle. As always Metropolis’ crack team of resident DJs and MCs will be on hand to ensure this drum ‘n’ bass feast keeps on jumping, deep into the night…

In the Earth room Fingerlickin’s Slyde will be dealing in electro breakbeat stylings as Grounded’s headliners. Robin 12Tree and Jason Laidback are the pair of dance music veterans behind Slyde. The duo have worked on individual projects in electronics for years before locking creative horns back in 2002 over a passion for twisted funk and breakbeat.

Since this studio pairing began they’ve let loose numerous disco breakz killers such as ‘Slippedy Slide,’ ‘Krunk’ and ‘We Love it.’ This DJ set will showcase their heavy hitting on the dancefloor and should be the perfect foil to the tough techy tackle that residents, Geoff Ticehurst and Will Atkinson, will be bringing to the room. Get involved…
