philyyy
Thank Goodness it is closing, it's one of the worst pubs in town. No atmosphere, too expensive and full of a very odd mix of people who appear to have arrived there because they know no better.

Can I ask what night you went in and how many times you have been there ? I've only been once and can't say whether it was bad or good, it was full so credit to them there... Danb1
Hi Geoff To answer your question, the building is not freehold but leasehold. If the lease has come up for sale than basically you are buying a period to trade. In V bars case it will probably be upwards of 10 years. On top of this you pay a rent (probably upwards of 35k) but are free to trade with any brewery - unless that is that a brewery have a charge over the lease and you tie into them immedialtey for a better (false) deal So if you want it, you will pay a premium for the lease (if you buy it off Northern bars) or alternativley you wait for it to go under and approach the landlord with an offer. You will still need to buy the F & F (tables, chairs, kit) from the current owners but can do so for a knock down price - or just tell them you don't want it and watch there faces drop. Takapuna does well as its got a late licence - also the owner is well connected and gets good promoters.
