He was some sort of survivalist who could live off the land and was pursued and gunned down by police in Malton? I ask because I'm re-reading Paul Theroux's "The Kingdom by the Sea" where he mentions it. I vaguely recall it happening but there's virtually no evidence of it around on the net - The BBC and Wiki have nothing. Google searches only bring up Ebay auctions for those "true crime" partworks where he was briefly mentioned. i can rember it very well as my family where taken to a safe house untill he was caught but he kiiled himself before the police could i still in school at the time our house was filled with polcie officers and they where heavley armed as well.
