It's much better fun planning it yourself .. honest ! You can tailor your time to suit then.

My daughter and I had a night down in London .. stayed in a beautiful Hotel - Did the Harry Potter walk at King's Cross .. well, saw the station (she's a big Potter fan) .. Top Shop on Oxford Street, the largest Top Shop in the world, Harrods - Performance of Cirque de Soliel at the Royal Albert Hall at night and Madam Tussaurds and the National History Museum. I spent a couple of fun hours planning all this on the internet - from what tube stations to get to, to the train to catch home .. was all fun!

http://www.superbreak.com do train/hotel/theatre packages, however as suggested above, I would reccommend organising it yourself otherwise. London is done best by deciding on some places to visit and buzzing about between them on the tube.

In terms of tube travel by the way, I suggest you buy an Oyster card before you go as it is a cheaper way of travelling in London. The way it works is you load cash onto the card and each bus or tube ride you make it deducts the fare from your card automatically, at a discount rate. Visit the Transport for London website - http://www.tfl.gov.uk

If you are travelling from Sheffield to London by train or coach there are some good value fares out there if you book well in advance and are fairly flexible with dates/times. Remember though if you get an advance purchase deal you are committed to the time of the train/coach you booked.

Boy London is vast with entertainment, shops etc. Makes you think if we are the 4th to 5th largest city why has Sheffield not got stuff happening. Any way another topic and another debate. Loads of shops in Piccadilly, Soho if you are feeling freaky, Camden Market for bargains, Tower of London etc, etc etc....The list goes on. Just make sure you have plenty of allocated time so you have a good weekend and see all the sights.

Hi there.

I love having a day in London as it's a magical place.

Sights I would recommend are British Museum, Canary Wharf - to get some peace and quiet in a fantastic futuristic area!, National Gallery, Tate Modern, Covent Garden - fantastic atmosphere! and if you like music go in the music collectables shop downstairs in Covent Garden, Science Museum is a must see! Harrods is great as it really is a world of it's own - I think photos can be taken inside as well. Numerous parks to be found such as Regents Park which is great in nice weather. Camden is well known for it's market and if you like music then I think they still have record fairs on at Camden Electric Ballroom.

For best photo-taking areas you can get great shots of Piccadilly Circus, Westminster, Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square - best times are upto late morning though.

Dead easy to get anywhere in central London on the tube. In fact you can walk from Covent Garden to Leicester Square (or vice-versa) quicker on foot than it takes to get down into the underground and try to squeeze on a train!

Using a zones 1&2 allday tube ticket is the cheapest and best option as it's unlimited travel plus the ticket machines are dead easy and quick to buy tickets from. Covent Garden tube station is usually exit only on Saturday afternoons as well. If you use buses you have to buy tickets before you board the bus as the buses don't sell tickets these days.

Most toilets are 20p to pay but if you hunt around there are free ones to be found - e.g Leicester Square and Westminster.

Hope that all helps.
