There is a kickboxing class runs at Paces in High Green, Ive not been myself but know people go to the other martial arts run there and they speak very well of it.

What other MAs are there at High Green???? Just interested in putting them down in my Sheffield MA list ---- I'm a bit of a train spotter in things like that!!!

The paces one in High green is run by an organisation called MSTA.

Not wanting to sound disrespectful but the course they label as kickboxing is actually very far from any form of thai or kickboxing.

It is actually more karate/taekwondo based.

The founder of the system Dr Malcom Sidall is a Taekwondo master and is very good at his TKD i have heard.

Now they teach "forms " in their kickboxing ive heard  and also they dont do boxing drills or boxing based combos like in a standard kickboxing club.

Im sure they do a good Taekwondo system (if your willing to pay by direct debit) but as for kickboxing, better to stick with a proper thai or kickboxing club im sure theres quite a few in Hillsborough.

Heres alink to them to have a look, http://www.mstacademy.com

They do other things there yes, Tai Chi being one that is very well done there. Taekwondo as Chefkicker says is done really well, Ian Malcolm Siddall who runs the place is I thibnk an 8th Dan, theres also a Kali class. The Kickboxing is Korean Han Kuk Mu Do style.

Han Kuk Mu do ???

Sounds a little bit suspect to be honest.

Basically not mainstream kickboxing as such. Just another martial art using the name kickboxing.

My opinion thats all

Owdoo

Long time no post, but i'd thought id shed a bit more light on the MST Academy at Paces High Green. Han Kuk Mu Do is basicaly "Korean (Han KuK) Martial Way (Mu Do)" and the form has its origin with Mstr Andy Davies and his schools down south, Mstr Sidall was a contributor to the BTMU and MST form of HKMD. Down south it appears to be a style of kick-fit excercise whereas up here it appears to be more like free style TKD than kick boxing as such. Although ive heard that the current instructor comes from a strong kickboxing background and has trained Muay Thai and Kyok Tooki (But don't quote me on it!) ive also heard from current and former students that they do use boxing and kickboxing style drills but to what degree i don't know.

The Tae Kwon Do is apparently of a high standard but falls slightly into the McDojo format which is a shame as Mstr Siddall is held in high enough regard to be a contributor to several Specialised Korean MA magazines.

They also hold Iaido and Tai chi classes, both taught by highly competant instructors. The "Kali" class, if the jungle drums are correct is about a filipino as a welsh pot noodle miner but again don't quote me on that.

Personaly id advise anyone to just go and try it out, its a buyers market these days and there are so many excellent styles and clubs in this area that you might as well take your time and choose what feels best for you the student.

Best wishes
