Old public houses in and around sheffield

If you drive up to the top dam you'll see on your left, about 30 yards prior to the bridge a big stone which carries the inscription Grouse & Trout. It forms part of the wall.

To the best of my knowledge, the building used to be in the copse that lies behind this wall. I would imagine the foundations are still there but the land is private property so I wouldn't know.

There are pictures of the Grouse and Trout on the wall in The Sportsman pub back along Redmires Road towards Sheffield.

The Grouse and Trout was a "Boom" pub during the construction of the dam, catering for the thirsts of the Irish Labourers who were drafted in to provide the work force. After the construction was complete and the workforce left the pub dwindled into obscurity.
