Greybeard Posted April 10, 2007 Share Posted April 10, 2007 Sheaf Island can be seen on the 1850s OS map available on-line at... http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ ...but the map isn't very clear. The 'island' lies between 'The Ponds' and the river Sheaf, running northwards from Harmer lane to Pond hill. What can't be seen on this map is the goit running from Bamforth dam to Ponds Forge which gave this small plot of land the air of an 'island' between two stretches of water.
