My grandparents used to live on Tuffolds Close on the Manor Estate now no longer exists. But when I used to visit them we always went to becketts chip shop on the manor top this would have been in the mid 70s early 80s. I remember their chips and cake were out of this world! they used to fry their stuff in dripping - also remember a chip shop on corporation st again this no longer exists and Mr Beckett had something to do with that I think his Daughter owned it back in mid 90s. Anyway doe anyone know of any good chippies as good as theirs? Wondered also if anyone remembered the Windle family my uncles are David, Johnny, William, Eddy, Beryl me mum and Sue Windle.

still go to becketts chippy on manor top (now known as manor top fish bar). they still cook them the same way as before

They dont. Theyre nothing like as good as when Mr Beckett ran it. As an aside, I went to school with Mr Becketts daughter, Isabelle.

Their son went on to be a famous playwright didn't he?

I still remember O'Toole at the Old Vic in "Waiting for Haddock"

He also wrote that tv programme about old people in a nursing home waiting for their tea. It was called "waiting for cod"
