theslithytove
The British Orienteering Championships were held last weekend in South Wales on an area of open hillside and navigationally challenging old quarry workings. It was a brilliant weekend for Sheffield based orienteers with victories for runners from local club South Yorkshire Orienteers (SYO) and from Sheffield University Orienteering Club (ShUOC). On Saturday married couple Oli and Jenny Johnson won the Men's and Women's elite classes respectively with an astonishing 6 runners from SYO or ShUOC in the top 10 in the Men's class. There were also victories for Martin Ward in the Men's 35 year class, Charlie Adams in the Men's 40 year class, Peter Gorvett in the Men's 60 year class and Aidan Smith in the boys' under 12 class. In the relays on Sunday the podium in the men's premier relay class was completely full of Sheffield runners with ShUOC the winners and SYO teams second and third. The order was reversed in the women's premier class with SYO first and the ShUOC team second. All in all a very successful and enjoyable weekend.
