Songs you want to hear on the Gay Scene

As you know there is a real problem with the gay scene in Sheffield.

One of the reasons is because the music that is played in venues does not fit the tastes of the majority. I am therefore starting this thread in the hope that you will do the following:

- Please put your top 5 songs in order of preference. (you can update this as much as you want and do more than one post, but dont overdo it)

This thread is a serious attempt to make the DJ's in the gay scene realise what the majority want.

G-A-Y do a top 100 dancefloor fillers every year. This is voted for by the public. On this night the dancefloor is in full swing and the vanue is at ists busiest (except when there is a major artist performing).

The music that is currently played is either too cheesy, too hardcore or just really silly. It is rare to hear current chart songs, let alone the number one.

I am asking that there is no bitching in this forum and that no one attempts to spoil the thread (with fake posts).

Thank you.

See this is what puzzles me about the gay scene and I speak as someone who has DJ'd on it for the last few years.

In other cities there seems to be a gay scene where people really care about the music and want the boundaries to be pushed and they want superb dance music played for them and they want to be cutting edge and they want their scene to be the best.

Sheffield doesn't seem to have that. The people seem to want Kylie or Mickey Modelle or Pink(what is it about that woman you all love?!) so consequently the gay scene is to my mind a bit naff and just seems to not have a focus or direction.

Wheres the venue that dare do something about it for gay people? Wheres the venue that will stand up and say no to pop and provide a real haven (or heaven if you will) for gay people who do want to hear all manner of quality dance music and not be subjected to records you hear every 55 minutes on galaxy?

You've got 3 main club venues (fuel, xes, dempseys) that all do a roughly similar thing so the scene is narrow and won't get any better until somebody does something. And I don't mean a venue, I mean the people on the scene. Its supposedly for you but the apathy is overwhelming. Even more so than the bitching that occurs.

All that said maybe i'm reading it all totally wrong and the people of sheffield are totally happy. All I know is if I were gay and I liked rock or trance or house or indie or soul or anything but cheesy pop i'd feel very hard done to and not catered for.

Proceed to slaughter me if you will!

Bang!!! You're already dead mate! :hihi:

Being serious though, discodown has made some excellent observations. The success of the Manchester Canal Street scene, or Birmingham's gay village scene is precisely because there is a choice of venues, and a choice for different musical tastes.

By the way, what's trance and indie?:hihi:

I know I banged on about dance music but what about indie and rock? They're hardly catered for at all to my knowledge. And if they are its more a token gesture than a night run by knowledgable lovers of the music. I'd be so annoyed if it were me

I love lots of music, not just one type so it would be really difficult to put just five, but to start with I would make it the law that all gay venues must play "Shoot Your Shot" by Divine every night.

1. Shoot your Shot - Divine

2. This Cahrming Man - The Smiths

3. Karma Chameleon - Culture Club

4. Baby Love - Supremes

5. Maneater - Nelly Furtardo

I do not want one type of music all night (r n b all night or indie all night) mix it up, something for everyone. If you want one type on music all night, then go to a specialist night.
