bluebird62
Was it may day or whit sunday?- remember the man who used to get dressed up in drag-? think he might have been called Ernest- just googled it think it was Darnall medical aid parade He was known as Little Brenda. Ernest Morley lived across from my parents before he died. I remember in the early 80's going with my family to the New Inn on Carbrook Street ,and seeing Little Brenda dressed in a black leotard and black tights. This was the first time i heard him sing. thecliffe
Yes I remember the Parade which went up Staniforth Road. I think it was Wit/Sun every year. It terminated in High Hazels Park. Can you remember the chap who sold Candy Floss fron his front door just before the gates of the park....I think he only did this once a year. mazcris
I think the parade was Easter Monday, not Whit Monday. Whit Monday was for the Sunday School parades into High Hazels Park. I was the Medical Aid Queen in (I think!) 1966. Yes it was Easter Monday every year
Itsbehindyou
Does anyone remember Darnall Medical Aid bringing their "Jack and the Beanstalk" pantomime to Grenoside in the mid 1970's? It's from that simple start that Grenoside's own panto group began, and which is still going strong 36 years later.

Yes I remember, the stage was so small, we had to change almost the whole of the performance, there we no wings, we had to enter the stage from the back. Excellent fun though
Itsbehindyou
Hi sheltiepup. I wonder if you're remembering a different hall....? The stage in Grenoside is about 8 yards wide, and 4 yards deep, with another 3 yards of width in the wings. And we enter from the sides because the back is the end wall of the building. Did you take your show to other places as well? I'd love to know more about the Grenoside visit. Do you know when it was? Do you remember anything of Margaret Twelves (who started our panto after you'd been)?

Margaret Twelves was a good friend of my mums.
