richardquinn
i must agree with harry tho, i train at both AFK Kickboxing and at the Royce Gracie Ju-Jitsu club and i love both, for a contact sport where u are being punched and kicked and doing the same to others then th kickboxing is great but the Ju-Jitsu is something totally different. i have done stand up for nearly 10 years now and i still love it but the ground work is something else, its a totally different workout, i would recomend that you try a few different things and see what suits you, plus in the Ju-Jitsu ur first lesson is free so you have nothing to lose by trying it., good luck finding the right club for you mate
ANVIL
i think gracie barra have a class on sundays, which meets with your weekend requirement, but it's BJJ (grappling), so doesn't quite meet your other requirement!
chefkicker
Richard Quinn and Rage are correct. There is a lot of crossover between AFK for kickboxing and RoyceGracie for BJJ (i cant comment too much on Gracie Barra as I know very little about them but I have been told they know what they are doing in that particular field). Examples, a lot of AFK people are doing BJJ with Royce Gracie school such as Mick the Fireman (AFK middleweight fighter who is known for cleaning up the BUMAC with 2 brutal KO's out of 3 fights) , Ant Stuchbury (AFK novice ), Richard Quinn (AFK instructor), Mark Howarth (AFK instructor and head of AFK womens self defence program) . Also, a lot of Royce Gracie BJJ members are in and out of AFK for stand up training. Either for bag/padwork or even sparring (in Mark the Monkeys case). Such as Mark the monkey (Needs no introduction!!!) , Michael Gabbitas (MMA fighter who defeated KO specialist Mark Mills) , Harry "the rage " Jenkinson (MMA fighter and karate instructor), LankymanBJJ : 6'5" MMA fighter who went the difference with Craig Lawrence who is Alex McKenzie's next opponent and has also trained with numerous boxing/kickboxing trainers. Looking at the credibility associated with the names above. It is clear that both AFK Kickboxing and Royce Gracie BJJ are decent "no nonsense" clubs for proper reality minded martial artists as opposed to being glorified Aerobics/McDojos.
