sarah1
is it not self-evident? What ? If I should go to work or not ?? No it isn't..That's why I'm asking about the power situation there...
H.P
I think he means that the councill dont want loads of people walking and driving round and clogging the roads up by travelling to work to find that work is closed and then travelling home again. There are a lot of trafic light's out and they are trying to avoid gridlock
HotPhil
Bad weather isnt due, roads are clear, no power cut problems in the centre now................so know it isnt! I would have thought that by coming into the city, extra strain will be put on the transport infrastructure (are many roads still not fully open?), electricity and communications networks. Then if due to extra power use in the city the power has to be cut imagine if everyone tries to leave - the transport impact, impeding the emergency services and repair workers etc.
Bilge
I wad been told that S6-2 was due to be switched off at 3pm Mine has not been switched off.. I cant make head nor tail of the rota for switch off's S6 2xx is in all categories except 2a. The last 3 columns indicate level of risk of power cut in descending order from left to right. The ones with 2a nearest to the left are the times of least risk for you. When all 3 are your categories (ie when 2a is not listed at all) you're certain to get cut off IF they cut the power off at that time - UNLESS you've already had it cut off twice in 24 hours, in which case they'll try not to cut you off - but still might! At 3pm you had a 2a in the second column so your power was unlikely to go off (but still could have). I think that's it anyway.

I cant make head nor tail of the rota for switch off's The various lists are *possible* cuts - not definite ones from what I understand. It means they've identified areas where they'll need to cut capacity in a rota system if the need arises. Should ensure that no one area may go for too long with no power. MontyBurns
a bit of info i hope is useful > 27 June 07 > Power rationing in Sheffield > Engineers and field staff from CE Electric UK, the region's electricity > distributor, have so far restored supplies to over 67,000 customers from a > total of 86,000 whose power was disrupted by torrential rain and flooding. > Not surprisingly Sheffield has been worst affected; our figures show that > 76,000 customers left without supply due severe flooding which has caused > substantial damage to both National Grid's and our equipment. So far, we > have already managed to restore many customers' supplies and have restored > supplies to a further 26,000 customers in North West Sheffield today by > carrying out further switching and repairs on our electricity network. > Today we will reach a point where we will have reconnected so many people > in Sheffield that allowing them all to use their normal amount of power > would do some very serious damage to the parts of the network that are > keeping the lights on in Sheffield. So, we will need to start to limit > the power being used throughout the day by imposing a series of relatively > short, planned power cuts. > Unfortunately, due to the number of important sites that have been > affected, it is going to take several days before our customers supplies > are fully back to normal.
