MontyBurns
> 27 June 07 > Power rationing in Sheffield > Engineers and field staff from CE Electric UK, the region's electricity > distributor, have so far restored supplies to over 67,000 customers from a > total of 86,000 whose power was disrupted by torrential rain and flooding. > Not surprisingly Sheffield has been worst affected; our figures show that > 76,000 customers left without supply due severe flooding which has caused > substantial damage to both National Grid's and our equipment. So far, we > have already managed to restore many customers' supplies and have restored > supplies to a further 26,000 customers in North West Sheffield today by > carrying out further switching and repairs on our electricity network. > Today we will reach a point where we will have reconnected so many people > in Sheffield that allowing them all to use their normal amount of power > would do some very serious damage to the parts of the network that are > keeping the lights on in Sheffield. On standby they can > use as much as 80% of the electricity they use when switched on > * Avoid over filling the kettle but be sure to cover the element > * Use low energy light bulbs wherever you can as they use 20% of the > electricity used by ordinary light bulbs > * Wait until you have a full load before using your washing machine > * Put draught strips around windows and outside doors > ENDS
whatkatydid
Yes mine came back on about 11 I think after going off early am. I rang the number and spoke to someone but was only told to expect cuts later in the day. she was surprised I'd had one already and said we shouldn't have. She then said that if I'd had one today I wouldn't have another. I asked how its was worked out so that I could preplan a bit. She didn't know. Does anyone have any idea what the planned pattern is, or how to work it out?.

sheff_minx
Anyone know if power has been restored to Oughtibridge yet? It seems that parts of the village had power restored overnight, but we've had nothing. I'm not at home so can't check
367squadron
Which university are you at? I'm working at Hallam and City campus is all fine but Collegiate is closed from 2:45 until 12:30 tomorrow dues to the hightened risk of power failure. rachelg
Anyone know if power has been restored to Oughtibridge yet? It seems that parts of the village had power restored overnight, but we've had nothing. I'm not at home so can't check according to the nice man on Radio Sheffield - power is back on in Oughtibridge in the last few minutes. (can't confirm this as I'm not there though!) rachelg
http://ceelectricuk.com/page/news/current/detail.cfm?articleId=147&mode=current The post code areas that may be affected in approximately 3 hour blocks during Wednesday 27 June are listed as follows: Sheffield Postcode S1 S3 S5 S6 S10 S30 S35 More information will be available during these power interruptions by calling 0800 169 2996 where customers will hear a recorded message for their local area. I'm just a bit confused by this... where is S30?? I seem to think that bits of Stocksbridge used to be S30 - but they are now S36. Does this mean S36 could be affected? Or does S30 exist? szb100
Why O Why can't someone communicate clearly on this issue? Confusion reigns, and the businesses in the city centre dont know if they are coming or going. At midday we were told of a power cut and had to turn all the equipment off. A couple of hours later having got bored of waiting for nothing we turned them all on again. Where is the coordination?
HotPhil
I think the gist is that getting hugely specific data of individual houses and when they might affected is a nigh-on impossible task and that we should all be prepared for further disruption for several days. speaking of which, blacks have some excellent wind-up torch and mobile phone chargers for 12 quid.
