Westfield/ waterthorpe - late 1970's

I remember the farms very well. Westfield Farm was abandoned by the summer of 1976 (as part of schoolwork I took some pictures but seem to recall some accident during development and nothing was on the film).

Heading towards Hackenthorpe along Moss Way, the farm was about 75/100 metres on the right and was where the playground is now. Maybe they decided not to build on the spot given what was underneath :)

Strictly speaking, the wood you see on the left side of Moss Way is the Westfield Plantation - Hanging Lea is on the far side of that. Between the two farms were the Waterthorpe cottages which I think were abandoned in the early '70s -I remember going inside and they were structurally pretty bad with windows and doors smashed and all open to the elements. Thinking back, these were gone by late 1975.

At Westfield Farm, kids got inside the building and explored barns where old machinery had been left lying around. It became an adventure playground for bored kids. The building itself was in sound condition - it's a shame it was demolished later as it had real character.

Owlthorpe Greenway sliced between where the Waterthorpe cottages had been and Waterthorpe Farm.

Yeah, the club itself has been knocked down now, though there are still some oldish looking buildings which may have been related at the side of the white bridge. does anyone know where westfield farm might have been through as there are no clues left of where this might have once stood?

I know this is a old post but if you want to know anything about waterthorpe I will probably know
