Dots
I remember a stretch of road between Deepcar and Green Lane that we used to call " t' bithams". Does anyone else remember this. (Maybe it's still called by the same name). And, what is the meaning and origin of the word "bithams"?
BorderReiver
The locals still refer to that stretch of road as t' bith'ms. If you look on the old-maps.co.uk website you'll find a map of the area from 1855. It shows a cottage called Bitholmes in the area of the same name and a Bitholmes Wood. zepstox
The dip just below was flooded during the "great flood on 2007" and washed a whole swathe of stone wall away and caused a land slip. I always remember a yellow painted bungalow on top of the hill there..
