As chancellors go he's accomplished quite a lot, and has managed, so far to keep things on a relatively even keel. No sudden lurches into megaprosperity or recession that send everything reeling (yet). Boring, yes, Sensible, yes, a bit strange, quite possibly, but a tosser, not really. He's a sort of Labour Ken Clarke and the two of them actually have quite a lot in common regarding their attitudes to Spending and Borrowing.
