If you are getting there by public transport....

The Plough at Low Bradfield (buses 61/62)

The Millstone above Hathersage (bus 272)

The Cheshire Cheese at Hope (bus 272/274)

The Rambler Inn at Edale (train)

The Cricket Inn at Totley (97/218/M17 bus)

All above are in scenic locations, are nice pubs and have real ale.

Thank you, this was very useful for us as we don't want to drink and drive :-)

we're going to try The Cricket Inn out today with the dog, will let you know what we thought!

I would recommend:

Old Horns in Bradfield and Admiral Rodney in Loxley have great views and decent food - the latter is actually just about walkable from Hillsborough.

The Plough and Nags Head out that way are supposed to be good too, but I don't know them as well.

The George is my favourite one in Castleton.

I would avoid:

- Mustard Pot near Stocksbridge (appauling service and poor food)

- Strines Inn at Strines (a small place always way too crammed)

- Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow (very hit and miss, but food often quite bland/disappointing)

Spent the day at The Cricket Inn in Totley today, fantastic beer garden/field with lovely views. Very dog friendly, they have water bowls for the dogs and a massive field for them to run around in.

Food is a bit pricey though..£13 for a burger.

Apart from that, really nice.

Well if you paid 13 quid for a burger, more fool you

When youve spent an hour getting there though and youve gone for tea, you give in.

it was a steak burger, but still much more than we planned on spending!

I can appreciate that but it's still a rip off, sorry you got raked in

We went to the Mustard Pot yesterday, and had great food and good service. Been a few times and not been disappointed.
