LordChaverly
Not at all. As Mathom says, it's usually members of the upper middle class intelligentsia who tend to be Socialists! StarSparkle Except when it comes to choosing schools for their kids, health care for their family or houses and areas in which to live.

LordChaverly
I thnik that's a little harsh, Lord C... StarSparkle I don't think so Sparkle. Declarations of socialist leanings have seldom prevented the upper middle classes from shinnying up the property ladder, quarantining themselves from contact with the lower orders by choosing to live in posh neighbourhoods or elbowing themselves forward in order to take advantage of any other benefits that our free enterprise society has to offer. There are more pseuds and posers amongst this group than was ever dreamt of in your (no doubt genuine) socialist philosophy, Sparkle.
evildrneil
He considers me MC because of my education while he seeks the kudos of being a real worker. Does that mean that those from the middle class aren't real workers?
BobbyBunny
I'm a tramp. Therefore classless. Not really. I think I'm middle class. Lol. In fact I have no idea what class I am. Class of 2004.
Cyclone
As an example - profession: medical: lower - Pre-registration house officer middle - Senior House Officer, Registrar higher - Consultant, GP Principal So the career of an average doctor moves them from C to A... Seem like a bit of a flimsy way of making a distinction.
depoix
self righteous middle classes originate from working class as the upperclass dont downgrade, because todays education is better and comprehensive school kids have a better chance of getting a management job by studying hard it does not leave their roots behind them, take presscot as an example,a train /ships waiter, now he may consider himself middle/upper class due to his good fortune in finding a particular job that lets him live the life of the class he aspires to be,but his grounding and history prove otherwise,he is, and always will be working class how many lottery winners spend their winnings on a costly house and try to associate with others in the same area only to let themselves down as soon as they open their mouth? you cant buy class as it comes with years of training and schooling not a cheque
Mathom
Not really. Many (most?) of the Upper Middle Intelligentsia (who are not all socialists by a long way!) were born to that class anyway. People like David Cameron and David Milliband are typical. Likewise you get people who've pulled themselves up by the bootstraps like Cherie Blair. And management jobs won't get you there - being in management in fact makes you more Lower-M or Middle-Middle - unless it's public service management - being a high ranking product of the civil service fast stream is as typically Upper Middle as it's possible to get. Prezza was never Upper Middle - that was what was so ace about him moonlighting in the midst of the Islington Set
Mr Prime
Does that mean that those from the middle class aren't real workers? Well the romantic image of the worker is a tough guy in a hot steelworks or down pit as opposed to poncing around an office like I do.

How about Prescotts children (if he has any), will they be working class, because their dad was once a waiter? Schooling is part of class, wealth is part of class, but neither of them are class.
