rad
Next time I pop into the Dram Shop will sign it. How is it legal for Tesco to own so many stores? Surely there are laws against this kind of thing, especially with Infirmary Road so close by.
TS-B
I have been told, by a contact at Tesco, that the store is set to open mid to late November. Looks like the petitions are not going to do a thing, it's already signed sealed and delivered.
Ralphus
If it has been designated as retail development by the council why can't they insist that it be used for something that would actually be useful to the area like a butchers or delicatessen. There would surely be room for two smaller shops instead of a completely unnecessary supermarket.
fuzzy
It will be like the one in Fulwood and not have everything you need anyway unless you only want milk and bread. How will it work with the Permit Parking scheme?? That corner is a nightmare at the best of times. And to have enough parking there won't be enough space for a store. cgksheff
The application proposes 'off-road' parking spaces for 3 regular + 1 disabled. http://planningdocs.sheffield.gov.uk/WAM/findCaseFile.do?action=show&appName=planning&appNumber=07/02849/FUL
fuzzy
Thats a joke surely. Have you ever been to the one on Fulwood between 4 and 6?? It's mad with cars stopping on the way home from work. There are at least 10 spaces down there and always people waiting to get in them.I know it sells petrol as well but 2/3 of people going to it don't go for that. cgksheff
...except a lot of traffic. But if the Council think this will be a problem, then they won't grant planning permission. I doubt if Tesco will get the go-ahead. The site used to be a service station. The application suggests that their customer vehicle traffic should be judged against that which the garage generated. fuzzy
So it's not planning on being a success then??? It wasn't a good garage unless you wanted petrol desperatley. If you wanted owt else you went to the shop round the corner. Maybe that was why it had no cuatomers and closed down. Some applications are complete jokes. cgksheff
So it's not planning on being a success then??? They are planning on being successful with their application. Their consultants understand the planning system and have addressed most of the possible issues that could be used as considerations against them. One of the considerations that could be used to reject the application would be on the grounds of traffic problems. They are attempting to show that any vehicular traffic to the TescoExpress would not be any different to that generated by a garage. They go to lengths to imply that the majority of their custom would be from pedestrian top-up shoppers and claim to improve pedestrian access around the site. Anyone that wants to raise successful objections to this application will have to do a lot better that "we've enough shops round here, thank you". Read their application documents and see if there are any discrepancies in their claims that can be supported with evidence.

There would surely be room for two smaller shops instead of a completely unnecessary supermarket. The council don't operate butchers or delicatessens. They cannot create retail outlets, only stop them. If they think an application to build a shop or shops on this site would be useful to the local community, they will approve the application - whether it be from Tescos, butchers, bakers or delicatessens. What is actually built there depends on which retailer thinks they can make a go of it. It's called the market.
