Woodside lane in the 50s

1960, just before clearance, Woodside lane top end. last block with common rear courtyard comprised of:

168 - Ledwoods had a son John, and looked after the fenced garden plot. He was special constable?

170 - The Hanby Sisters and companion now all departed. GBTS's

Arched narrow passage access to woodside lane.

172 - ?

174 - ?

176 - Hagues with their son Peter. Had something to do with Owls.

178 - Mitchells with three sons

Wonder if the Ledwoods at no 168 could be relatives of mine. My Grandma was a Ledwood and came from that area . I know she lived in Fowler St and Woodside Lane but not any numbers. She was called May Ledwood before she married my Grandad Walter Patterson. They had three children , Joe Ledwood , Walter jnr and my mum , Alice who was born in 1926 . I know my mum lived near Peter Stringfellow as she used to tell me everybtime he came on TV that she could remember him as a little boy running around with a runny nose :-)

hello dburgar

yes, I remember the firths. Daniel and Elsie were my aunt and uncle and Danny and Alan my cousins. Danny's still around and Alan went to to the USA after the steel industry in Sheffield was destroyed when Maggie came to power. He's done very well

Anyone know the whereabouts of the Buccieri family? Sonny or Raff, Christina - all possibly dead now but what about their families. I am researching my family tree. I'm a Franchetti descendant from Woodside Lane in the early 1900's.

Try the site below, if you are unaware of it. We have a meeting every year around Sept Oct time. Ive seen the Franchittis attend Franchettis likely to be the same family

family.

I think Bucceieri also attend.

There is also a closed site on Facebook. If you send me you details and email I can join you.

Dennis

Mallinson and Gillot both died some years back.

I remember the Broomheads on Fowler St, Eric, and his two sisters. Would the Spencers have a son called Les? And the Halls, Ernest, Dennis and Frank. Do you remember Jack Best? All on Fowler. And little Hayward Road, Gouldings, Dereck, George, Tommy and little Arthur. Denis Swift, Denis Bullivant, Denis Wade. On Woodside Lane itself, the Taylors, Martins, Parkers, Revels. Trying to remember the names of the Broomhead sisters, one was called Minnie but I can't remember the other.

What about Birley Street, seems to be the forgotten thouroughfare, remember Mrs Johnson, massive woman.

Les Spencer was my younger brother sadly he passed away 1991 aged 37

Its interesting when old Pitsmoor-ians come on here.

Now I was born on Fowler Street and lived on Grove Street at number 5.

I was born in 1959 so remember very little if nothing about the area but someone told me that the Pitsmoor road of today is where Fowler Street was.

I know Pye Bank Rd used to be Pitsmoor Rd.

Perhaps you can tell me more about the area as it was.

I have a photo of a corner shop on Grove Street and a few old ones but very little to go on.

We moved out in 1961 and moved to Woodseats before moving back to the newly built Andover Drive in 1963.

My grandmother owned a shop on the corner of grove street and fowler street

I was born on Woodside Lane in 1953, and we left in 1958 during the slum clearance and went to Sheffield lane top. We moved to Foremark Rd and are the Hawnt family. I made friends with the Rowberry's , mainly Alan and barry but remember the other 3 lads Johnny, Peter and Christopher. Any of you guys reading this or anyone who knew us please get in touch .
