Angyl
In brief: Venue required to host a formal Winter Ball with some period/historical influence and a ceilidh dance. In full: I'm currently doing some research into prices and locations for a suitable venue for a Winter Ball to be held in the first week of December 2007 or the last week of January 2008. The exact date is dependant on the availability of the attendees. We are not wanting a 'room above a pub' but somewhere that has either a smart, old feel or a true period venue, preferably Edwardian, Georgian or Victorian but certainly not modern. Ideally it will have a small bar specifically for the event or the option to bring our own drinks - alcoholic and none alcoholic. It needs to host only 30 people (50 at most) for one evening and have somewhere a live band can play and the attendees can perform formal and traditional dances. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated since I do not know the venues in Sheffield well at all and an internet search was less than helpful. ellielambert
Does it need to be in the city centre? If not I would try some of the stately homes a little into the peaks or the marriot off Eccy Road. Hope that helps x
Angyl
Does it need to be in the city centre? If not I would try some of the stately homes a little into the peaks or the marriot off Eccy Road. Hope that helps x It does help. As long as it can be reached by taxi/public transport it will be suitable. I didn't realise there were any stately homes that way at all. Angyl
try the Cutlers, but be prepared to pay.. I had considered Cutlers Hall, but since it's fairly central/well known I had expected it to be very expensive. Thank you for the tip though. Jackdanny
Got you two places - they are perfect for you! 1. The Dam House at Crookes 2. The Manor House and Rooms at Dronfield - this one is more your type, 16th century, small bar, but in Dronfield not sheffield.

Bago
Depends on the numbers that you are looking at.... I'd suggest these places too. Marriott Hotel nr Ecclesall Road http://www.marriott.co.uk/Channels/hotels-uk/hotels/travel/szdsf-sheffield-marriott-hotel/ Westbourne hotel - S10 http://www.westbournehousehotel.com/ The Graduate - Pub It looks exactly like an old front room. Not sure if the pub will rent any areas out for a function at all. The Beauchief Hotel http://www.corushotels.com/hotel.asp?hotelID=74 Holiday Inn Victoria http://www.holidayinnsheffield.co.uk/ Tankersley Manor - Barnsley http://www.qhotels.co.uk/hotels/tankersley-manor-barnsley-south-yorkshire/ ------------------------ Sheffield University http://www.shef.ac.uk/cics/roomandparking/ (There may or may not be function rooms, or lecture rooms which are old rooms, which are rented out for functions. You can always ask. Some of their buildings like Mappins Building - nr West St- is pretty old and historic.) Rutland Hotel? http://www.rutlandhotel-sheffield.com/christmas2004.htm -------------------------- I found this too: http://www.spinsheffield.com/tours/The_University_of_Sheffield/7 Pretty good extensive list. http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/business-economy/conference-bureau/venues-in-sheffield
