Justin Smith
Does anyone know the year that the Hasland "By Pass (i.e. the section of the A617 from Chesterfield to the M1) was first opened ?
hillsbro
I don't know when the by-pass was opened, but they were building the Chesterfield end in June/July 1977 - I used to see the construction work from the train as I went to and from London. owdsmiffy
Don't know for sure when it was opened but I used to run tippers through there and I think it was around the early 80's (82 or 83)but don't forget it was built in two sections, can't remember which bit came first though. Justin Smith
A very helpful chap from Derbyshire County Council (who worked on the project) reckoned the first phase, from the M1 to Winsick, opened in 1974, and the second to Horns Bridge roundabout in 1978. Any advance on that ? ! ?
Cliffhanger
It definitely was only part open in 75/76 when I moved to Coventry. Used to drive though Chesterfield and then out towards the M1 on the old road, but the M1 end was open then.
