He wants to go to a pub beforehand but doesn't want any trouble... any recommendations for a quiet Sat afternoon drink before the match as an away supporter? Great pub any time, but as an away fan going to Hillsborough I've always found it convenient and welcoming enough. You're looking at 15-20 minutes walk to the ground, but the advantage of that is that it doesn't get really rammed and you can actually get served. Try pubs in Malin Bridge, not as nice as some pubs down Hillsborough but you'll not find many wednesday fans or as many violent/stupid ones.
