Was the Cossack a gay pub ?

having spent a long time of my childhood living on eyre lane where my family were caretakers of a factory ,i used to go to the globe pub landlord pete drabble..... down the road in the seventies a gay man called pete had the cossack, i was allways told it was a gay pub was this true ?

 

I don't think the pub was gay although a lot of the customers were

The Cossack was the brewery tap for Rawson's Brewery which stood where Hallam University now stands.

 

In 1940 a German bomb blew the brewery to bits and also blew the top floor off the Cossack. It has remained as a bungalow pub ever since. I presume there must be the remains of an old staircase somewhere.
